Alceu Rogoski - Biography

Alceu RogoskiAlceu Rogoski was born in the South of Brazil, where the beauty of rural settings and simple life with nature captured his dreams. These pastoral and natural themes later translated into Rogoski's art, which is characterized by harvesting scenes, fishing villages, small town living and other daily aspects of a lifestyle that is still common throughout much of the developing world, but that is slowly vanishing from our increasingly urban-based society.

He was raised in a family of limited resources along with four other siblings, and was forced to join the local labor force very early in order to help his parents. Working from a very young age as a metalsmith, mechanic and later as an office clerk, Alceu nevertheless kept alive his artistic dreams, spending much of his spare time painting outdoors.

With the strong encouragement of friends and family, Rogoski began at the age of 34 - more than 20 years ago - to dedicate his life entirely to painting. Since then, his enduring passion for colors and nature has been a constant theme in his artwork.

During his self-taught career, Rogoski has explored several styles and techniques, but has discovered his true style in impressionism, with the use of broad strokes of spatulas, painting knifes, and wide brushes. When seen from up-close his paintings seem almost abstract in nature, but they often come together in an explosion of vivid colors and shapes to reveal wonderful compositions and tell great stories.

Rogoski still lives in the same small city where he was born, along with his wife, Nancy, and their four children. Staying true to his lifestyle and family, Alceu still sells his art today directly to the public, and he has over the years acquired a loyal following of collectors that continues to buy his paintings as steadily as they are produced.

While Rogoski's artwork can sometimes be found in Art Galleries throughout the world, he has always avoided selling his paintings to art dealers, preferring instead to provide them directly to his clients and friends. Today, just as he did decades ago, Rogoski can often be found outdoors... Always painting.
