Welcome to Rogoski.com!
Here you will find a wide variety of images showcasing the work of Brazilian artist Alceu Rogoski, along with a list of paintings currently available for purchasing through our online store.
Alceu Rogoski was born in the south of Brazil and has - for over four decades - been painting images of a rural life brought to South America by European immigrants during a colonization period that lasted more than three centuries.
Rogoski's work masterfully captures the shapes and colors of such lifestyle, still predominant in Brazilian small towns and rural villages, but that is mostly gone in many other parts of the industrialized world.
Rogoski's painting technique is inspired by Impressionism and the master painters from the late 19th and early 20th century such as Monet and Sisley, as well as the Post-Impressionism of Van Gogh and Cézanne. Just as these early pioneers did more than a century before him, Rogoski has witnessed the transformation of an agrarian society into an urban one, and has expressed such transition through his unique artwork.
With strong and colorful patterns applied in instinctive and almost random gestures, Rogoski's paintings create an intense and powerful image of everyday scenes which could otherwise remain unnoticed. His technique applies wide, overly-saturated strokes in heavy layers, creating shapes that only convey their true intent when seen with the overall composition of each painting.
Every piece of artwork you see here is the result of Alceu Rogoski's personal and distinctive interpretation of the world around him. His reward is the love and appreciation brought by his innumerous friends, clients, and admirers.
